Our new Isiqalo Program focuses on rendering a comprehensive service and establishing a care-, counselling- and developmental program for girls and women experiencing a crisis pregnancy, many of whom come from previously disadvantaged communities. Magdalenahome endorses “The First Thousand Days”. This program specifically aims to assist in the early developmental stages of a baby/ child, by empowering and supporting pregnant girls and women in need. Currently, more than 300 pregnant girls and women have benefited from this program.
Pregnant girls and women, who are in need of a more protected environment (or who are referred from our external Badisa offices), are still supervised by Magdalenahome. We provide all the necessary assistance, counselling, support and ensure their safety by means of placement within a safety family.
With Clicks Pharmacy as a health partner, we have started to address relevant social and health issues in various communities. More than 3000 people have been reached by means of awareness campaigns since November 2014. The focus of these outreach projects is mainly the prevention of unplanned or teenage pregnancies and prevention of the spreading of HIV.
In the midst of these many changes, Magdalenahome has continued to render adoption and heritage inquiry services. Our highly competent and experienced social workers continue as before on this front. Currently, our staff consists of six accredited adoption social workers, an auxiliary social worker, a community worker, an administrative assistant, a program assistant and an office helper.
